“It is surprising that the call for NA Speaker Alen Simonyan’s resignation was painfully accepted,” the secretary of the NA’s Armenia faction Artsvik Minasyan said at the meeting with journalists.

He said Alen Simonyan makes statements in the international arena, which bring risks for the Armenian foreign policy.

“He makes statements about the captives, to whom, first of all, the state’s duty is to return to the homeland. These statements cause mental pain and suffering, but also weaken Armenia’s defense, and it is not ruled out that this is organized.

“Such a statement is an action aimed at weakening our country, our statehood,” Minasyan said.

He said the recent brawl in the National Assembly showed that Simonyan does not follow the rules, does not follow the right political culture, does not shine by the rules of parliamentary conduct.

Referring to the question who will be the opposition candidate for the post of the Speaker of the National Assembly, Minasyan answered that the candidate will be from one of the two opposition factions.

“The issue was discussed with the I Have Honor faction, I think they’ll  make a statement in the near future,” he said .
