Blinken welcomes direct contacts between Armenia and Azerbaijan, urges to make progress in issue of POWs

02.12.2021 | 17:35In his speech at the OSCE Ministerial Council in Stockholm, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken referred to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. He welcomed the resumption of direct contacts between the governments of Armenia and Azerbaijan and called for dialogue on humanitarian issues.
“We welcome the resumption of direct contact between the governments of Armenia and Azerbaijan. We urge the parties to make progress on humanitarian issues, including prisoners of war, demining, missing persons, to investigate violations of human rights and international humanitarian law, and to bring the perpetrators to justice,” Blinken said.
He expressed hope that he will be able to work with Russia in this field to achieve progress. In addition, Blinken called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to resolve other important issues, in particular, to begin the “delimitation and demarcation of borders, to restore economic and transport communications, and to continue cooperating with the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs for a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.”
