Pashinyan: The price of not imposing control over Armenian citizens was the corridor, which is unacceptable
Speaking at the cabinet meeting today with regard to Azerbaijan’s decision, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said:
“In order to avoid speculation, I must draw your attention to the fact that the Azerbaijani checkpoint is not in the territory of Armenia. It is at the Eivazli section. Now another question may arise. And was it not possible to negotiate so that no border control was exercised over Armenian citizens’ cargo on that section? It was possible, but the price would be “corridor logic”, which is unacceptable for us. The position of the Republic of Armenia on regional communications has always been that they should be reopened, without any context of extraterritoriality, with appropriate customs and passport control. In other words, we have never discussed and will not discuss any corridor logic, as I have stated several times before,” Pashinyan said.
He said this is fixed in the trilateral format of deputy prime ministers – Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan.
“It should be noted that in recent weeks this logic, the agreement, has been publicly confirmed by Russia. In this context, Azerbaijan made yesterday’s decision” Pashinyan said. Pashinyan added that Armenia will also, if necessary, set up customs and passport control checkpoints.
