ECHR finds Azerbaijan guilty in cases filed by Armenian captives

04.11.2021 | 16:02The European Court of Human Rights has released the verdicts in the case of Karen Petrosyan, a resident of Chinari village, who was tortured by Azerbaijan, and Mamikon Khojoyan, a resident of Verin Karmiraghbyur village, according to the official website of the court.
The court upheld the claims of the Armenian side and found Azerbaijan guilty. In particular, the verdict states that Azerbaijan has violated the rights of Armenian captives to life, non-torture, non-discrimination, freedom and personal immunity. The European Court of Human Rights has ordered Azerbaijan to pay 40,000 euros in two cases over three months.
Karen Petrosyan got lost in 2014, crossed the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and appeared in an Azerbaijani village. Azerbaijani authorities arrested him and later announced that he had died of a heart attack. Mamikon Khojoyan was captured in 2014, then returned to Armenia months later, and died some time later.
