The US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland within the framework of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly met  with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov. The sides exchanged views on the Nagorno-Karabagh conflict.

“We look forward to progress, including via the Minsk Group Co-Chair mechanism, on steps to promote peace and stability in the region, such as release of detainees, humanitarian demining, and political reconciliation”, wrote Nuland on her Twitter page.

However, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry did not mention anything in the statement of the meeting about the activities of the Minsk Group, as well as the discussions on the release of the Armenian captives.

“During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the current security situation in the region and the implementation of the November 10, 2020 trilateral statement on Karabakh. Bayramov noted that Azerbaijan had taken constructive steps in this regard, but Armenia had not reciprocated”- is mentioned in the statement shared by the Azerbaijani side.

It was also mentioned that the sides emphasized the importance of opening communication channels and delimitation of state boundaries for the further peacefull development of the region.
