An appeal has been filed against detention of former Armenian Prosecutor General and former Chairperson of the Investigative Committee Aghvan Hovsepyan at the Criminal Court of Appeals, Gagik Khachikyan, Hovsepyan’s attorney, told Factor.am.  He said the selected preventive measure is groundless and does not correspond with factual circumstances.

According to the Special Investigative Service, Aghvan Hovsepyan, while holding the office of Prosecutor General between March 2004 and September 13 2012 , and the office of the Chairperson of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia starting from 18 July 2014 until 11 June 2018, de-factor participated in management of a number of limited liability companies , which carried out entrepreneurial activities, and apart from that received a large-scale bribe in the amount of 190,000,000 AMD and committed large scale embezzlement of property to the tune of 800,000,000 AMD by means of fraud. Acording to the Special Investigative Service, Hovsepyan also laundered the large scale amount, which had been illegally obtained, – a total of 1,299,404,414 AMD.
