The mayor of Sisian, Syunik province, Artur Sargsyan, submitted his resignation letter the town’s council of elders, his lawyer Emin Khachatryan has told Factor.am. Khachatryan explained that as Sargsyan was elected to the National Assembly, by law, he has to choose whether to continue his service as a mayor or to become a NA member, and Sargsyan has chosen the National Assembly.

However, Sargsyan is currently under detention. He is charged with abuse of office and faking official documentation, causing a AMD 3,631,050 (about US $7,500) damage to the community.
