The AstraZeneca vaccine against COVID-19 was acquired within the framework of the COVAX FACILITY initiative. The AstraZeneca vaccine is authorized by the World Health Organization (WHO) for emergency use. It should be noted that due to the efforts of the Ministry of Health, as a result of negotiations, it was possible to receive the first batch of the vaccine on time. It applies to people aged 18 years and over
Armenia is one of the few countries to have the opportunity to obtain the long-awaited vaccine, while today a number of countries in the world are still fighting for that right.
It should be noted that the use of the vaccine plays a key role in the prevention of coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The safety and efficacy data of the imported vaccine meet the criteria set by the WHO. It should be noted that in the United States, according to the latest announcement of the 3rd phase of the AstraZeneca clinical trial (03/25/2021), the vaccine provides prevention of symptomatic COVID-19 – 76% efficacy, prevention of severe or extreme cases, and hospitalization for 100% efficiency, prevention of symptomatic COVID-19 among the elderly (65 and older) – 85% efficiency. It should be reminded that vaccinations in the Republic of Armenia are carried out exclusively on a voluntary basis.
