23.12.2021 | 15:02Baku has responded to the statement of Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan that without waiting for the construction of a new railway in Meghri and Mijnavan-Horadiz sections, communication should be opened to Iran via Nakhichevan.
Following the meetingof the Armenian-Russian intergovernmental commission held in Yerevan yesterday, Mher Grigoryan told reporters that the working group on unblocking regional communications is considering the option of phased opening of the Yeraskh-Horadiz railway. One of the options put up for discussion is that without waiting for the construction of a new railway in Meghri and Mijnavan-Horadiz sections, the communication to Iran via Nakhichevan will be opened. Thus, Armenia will have the opportunity to establish a railway connection with Iran.
The Azerbaijani agency haqqin.az quoted its diplomatic sources as saying that Azerbaijan’s position in the negotiation process on unblocking the communication channels is that until the new Aghbend-Meghri-Nakhichevan railway is put into operation, there can be no talk of restoring Armenia’s communication with Iran through Nakhichevan and other directions. This statement once again confirms that Azerbaijan continues to violate the provision of unblocking all channels of regional communication. Besides, such a reaction of Azerbaijan confirms the earlier statements made by Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan that Baku is obstructing the provision of a road from Armenia to Iran and Russia.
