The only thing on the agenda of the Council of Elders’ special session is to convey a no confidence motion against Hayk Marutyan and to elect Hrachya Sargsyan as mayor.

The no-confidence vote process was initiated by the ruling My Step faction after a closed meeting with Nikol Pashinyan. The sitting is chaired by Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan. The motion was presented by the leader of My Step faction Armen Galjyan.

“It is a rather difficult situation, this decision was made difficult, but I think it was a necessity in the current situation, because there was a real crisis between the Council of Elders and the mayor’s institutions. There is no dislike for Hayk Marutyan, that is, there is no personal problem, there has been a clash of institutions. Although it is thought that the reason is the fact that Mr. Marutyan left the party but I want to say that it was just the trigger not the real reason of the crisis. We have been working in those conditions for a year now, and that work is difficult,” Galjyan said.
