Countries that are battling rising COVID-19 case numbers should delay or cancel Christmas events to stop the spread of the Omicron variant, the World Health Organisation says.
“An event cancelled is better than a life cancelled,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said during a COVID-19 update in Geneva.
“It’s better to cancel now and celebrate later than to celebrate now and grief later.
“None of us want to be here again in 12 months time.”

It comes as Mr Tedros warned that the Omicron variant is spreading faster than the Delta variant and is causing infections in people already vaccinated or who have recovered from the COVID-19 disease, according to Mr Tedros.
