16.12.2021 | 20:02The legality of the detention of the four servicemen returned from captivity in Azerbaijan is not convincing, the Office of the Armenian Ombudsman has said in a statement, referring, in particular, to those who, after they were captured in the November 14, 2021 Azerbaijani offensive, were later returned to Armenia and then arrested by Armenian authorities.
“This statement is based on private conversations, study and comparison of documents of the Human Rights Defender’s staff with some of the servicemen in Nubarashen and Armavir penitentiaries on December 14, taking into account the circumstances of the captivity and domestic and international legislation for the protection of prisoners’ rights,” the statement says.
Further, it presents in detail all the arguments substantiating the statement.
