Azerbaijan plans to file several lawsuits against Armenia in 2022, allegedly for violation of international conventions, Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov said today, Azerbaijani media reported.

“Next year, Azerbaijan plans to file several lawsuits against Armenia for violating a number of conventions,” Mammadov said. He said the complaints will be submitted in two directions. “One of the lawsuits will refer to the environmental damage. And, of course, under certain, it is planned to raise the issue of the damage caused to the environment in those areas. The other lawsuit will concern energy resources. The facts of illegal use and exploitation of energy resources by Armenia are being collected. We are going to make demands in this regard,” Mammadov said. He, however, he did not say which international courts Baku will apply to.

Following the 44-day Artsakh war, Azerbaijan always speaks about filing various lawsuits against Armenia in international courts, but so far simply reacts to Yerevan’s applications. Armenia has filed lawsuits against Azerbaijan in the ECHR and the UN International Court of Justice.
