The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has banned Poland from deporting those migrants who are already in Poland and have appealed to courts to Belarus, DW’s Russian service reported.

In most of the applications, the applicants stated that they were in Poland and asked not to be deported to Belarus. The Court applied ECHR Rule 39 to rule that applicants could not be deported from Poland if they were in fact in Poland, the ECHR Press Office said in a statement issued on December 6.

The press service clarified that from August 20 to December 3, the ECHR received 47 applications for interim measures from 198 migrants. At the same time, 44 applicants stated that they were in Poland and were seeking international protection.

Another complaint was filed against Latvia, two against Lithuania. No interim measures have yet been taken for applications against the Baltic states. In total, the court upheld 43 of the 47 applications, in some of which the ECHR also decided to provide migrants with food, water and necessary medical care.
