Speaking toady at the meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Sochi, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that Azerbaijan has invaded the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia. Pashinyan underscored that after the 44-day war, the situation is not as stable as it should be.

“Since November 9 last year, dozens of people have been killed on both sides; incidents are also taking place in Nagorno Karabakh. Since May 12, we have had a crisis situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. Our stance is that the Azerbaijani troops have invaded the sovereign territory of Armenia,” he said. “It is the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia.”

Nikol Pashinyan also did not agree with the statement of Azerbaijani President Aliyev that all the provisions of the trilateral agreements have been fulfilled, except for the unblocking of communications, Pashinyan said, addressing Putin. “At face-to-face and telephone conversations, we spoke about the problem of prisoners of war and other detainees, which is a very important humanitarian issue. However, I think that we have met today not only to raise the issues, but also to discuss their solutions.”

He noted that Armenia has repeatedly stated that it is ready to start the process of demarcation and delimitation. Pashinyan also stressed that the issue of unblocking transportation routs is very important for Armenia, and that Yerevan is interested in addressing those issues. He also expressed hope that during today’s discussions there will be a reference to the settlement of the NK conflict.

“Of course, we are interested in a peaceful settlement. We believe that the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict should take place within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs,” Pashinyan said. Moreover, according to him, many issues can be solved both trilateral and bilaterally.

“Direct contacts between Armenian and Azerbaijani officials are expected. Such positive nuances need to be emphasized,” Pashinyan said.
