At the meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Rome, US President Joe Biden made clear Washington’s concern over Ankara’s acquisition of Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems, US State Department spokesman Ned Price said at a briefing, TASS reported.
He was asked to comment on media reports that Turkey had moved S-400 systems to Incirlik air base, where NATO and US forces are stationed. “We have quite clearly outlined our position on the S-400s and Turkey. In Rome, President Biden reaffirmed our defense partnership and Turkey’s role as a NATO partner. However, at the meeting, the President also noted the concern over the presence of Russian S-400s in Turkey. We have very clearly expressed our concern about these systems, we have clearly stated the consequences, including in the context of F-35 fighter jets,” he said.
