A national hero general arrested in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijani media report on the arrest of Lieutenant General Rovshan Akbarov. It is mentioned that 4-month detention was chosen as a precautionary measure against him. The Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan has confirmed the news of the general’s arrest.
According to the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office, Akbarov was arrested within the framework of a criminal case conducted by the Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office. According to media reports, Akbarov is accused of premeditated murder in Ukraine. It is mentioned that the case dates back to 19 years ago.
Law enforcement officials note that Akbarov was one of the actors in the murder of Azerbaijani businessman Elchin Aliyev in 2001. It should be added that Rovshan Akbarov was the commander of the 4th Army Corps of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, who was dismissed by Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov in early February. There were rumors about his resignation during the Second Artsakh War. By the way, in 1994 Rovshan Akbarov was awarded the title of National Hero of Azerbaijan.
