The Office of Armenia’s ombudsman has prepared an extraordinary report on the need for a security zone in all areas of contact with Azerbaijan.
“Visits have been made to all border settlements of the Republic of Armenia, continuous monitoring was carried out in Syunik and Gegharkunik for a year. The report brings facts, provides objective evidence to show the dangers,” Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan told a news conference today.
Tatoyan said the criminal terrorist acts of Azerbaijan were substantiated exclusively by facts.
“We have shown the connection between the continuing violations and the policies of the Azerbaijani authorities. We have substantiated that the security zone is necessary. Azerbaijani flags, military, various equipment, cameras must be removed from the immediate neighborhood of our villages, from the roads connecting our communities. Without it, there can be no restoration of rights.”
He stressed that in the absence of demarcation and delimitation, no international standards were adopted. “I will show that the Azerbaijani armed forces are physically present today on the lands belonging to Armenian residents since the Soviet era. We have substantiated by international demands that the delimitation and demarcation of borders cannot be considered legitimate if it does not ensure human rights, does not comply with the rules of democracy, the rule of law, does not ensure the normal life of the people,” Tatoyan said.
