Criminal investigation launched into former president’s flights to German resort

Union of Informed Citizens, NGO Program Coordinator Daniel Ioannisyan reported that the plane provided to serve the Armenian President was operated by high-ranking officials in 2008-2017, and made a number of flights at the expense of government funds without official necessity, Special Investigations Serivce said in a statement.
Information was received that during the above-mentioned period the mentioned plane made numerous flights to Baden-Baden, Germany, in some of which the flights were organized in violation of the established order, without prior receipt from the Armenia President’s Office.
Considering that the prepared materials contain information on the alleged crime of abuse of official authority caused by negligent serious consequences by high-ranking Armenian officials, on October 11 a criminal case was initiated in the Special Investigation Service under Article 308 of the RA Criminal Code. A preliminary investigation is underway,” the statement said.
