A Yerevan court today passed a ruling to detain former Minister of Defense Davit Tonoyan for 2 months. His lawyer Sergey Hovhannisyan told reporters that Tonoyan denies the accusation leveled against him.

He added that they will appeal the ruling to the Criminal Court of Appeal.

Later in the day, the court also ruled to detain for two months David Galstyan, aka Patron Davo, the CEO of the company that has supplied arms and ammunition to the Armenian Armed Forces.

Yesterday, the National Security Service searched the apartments of Deputy Chief of General Staff Stepan Galstyan, former Chief of Military Aviation Avetik Muradyan, former Minister of Defense David Tonoyan, from where Tonoyan was later summoned to the NSS.

Davit Tonoyan and Davit Galstyan are accused of embezzling an equivalent of about US $4.7 million in connection with arms and ammunition supplies during Tonoyan’s service as defense minister between 2018 and 2020.
