Minister of health: Delta variant is to blame for surge in mortality

Speaking at the government meeting today, Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan said that 19 deaths were registered yesterday due to Covid-19. She said the Delta variant has a high degree of infection and a more severe course of the disease.
“We are seeing a rejuvenation of the disease. Last week I announced that we have 20, 28 year olds, unfortunately one of them died. At the moment we have an 18-year-old man who is in the intensive care unit. Out of 1600 beds, 1400 are occupied; 650 citizens are in critical condition, 126 are in extremely serious condition, 51 are connected to artificial respiration,” she said.
Later she told journalists that the situation over the last two or three weeks is worrying, and the tightening of restrictions stems from this situation. She said people stay in bed longer in intensive care units, and that Delta variant caused more severe cases among younger people.
