He presented the situation in terms of human rights violations due to the intense shootings provoked by the Azerbaijani armed forces in Gegharkunik since early this morning, as well as the results of the fact-finding work carried out by the Human Rights Defender. Artyom Sedrakyan informed that the civilians of Gegharkunik region, since late at night, alerted the ombudsman’s staff that the Azerbaijani servicemen were constantly firing in the direction of Verin Shorzha-Kut villages of Gegharkunik region. It was also reported that Azerbaijani militants in the sovereign territory of Armenia fired at other villages in the region as well (Sotk, Azat, Norabak, Nerkin Shorzha, etc.). The representative of the Human Rights Defender stated that according to the fact-finding data, the shootings were provoked by the Azerbaijani armed forces, they took place in the immediate vicinity of the villages of the Republic of Armenia, including in the direction of the villages. The obtained facts prove that the Azeri shootings can be prevented only due to the retaliatory shots of the Armenian Army, which protect the rights, life and peace of our people. According to the Human Rights Defender’s Office, in these conditions, the Azerbaijani authorities are responsible for the violations of the rights of the residents by today’s shootings, the violation of their rights by the murder of three Armenian servicemen, the damage to the health of those injured.
