The Criminal Court of Appeal ruled to reject the defense lawyers’ appeal against the detention of Kajaran Mayor Manvel Paramazyan, Yervand Varosyan, the mayor’s lawyer, told Factor.am.

“Mr. Paramazyan understands very well what is happening, there was nothing surprising for him. Naturally, it was expected in the case of Judge Armen Danielyan, if it was not expected, we would not have left the courtroom yesterday. We will definitely apply to the Court of Cassation,” the lawyer said.

Manvel Paramazyan has been charged under Article 38-178, Part 3 of the Armenian Criminal Code (organizing fraud), Article 311, Part 4 (receiving bribes), Article 154.2 (obstructing the free exercise of the voter’s will).

Paramazyan denies accusations calling them “part of the chain of political persecution unleashed against him.” Paramazyan is a member of the Reviving Armenia party founded by the former governor of Syunik, Vahe Hakobyan.
