A Yerevan court ruled today to sustain the prosecutor’s motion seeking a two-month detention for the mayor of Goris.
Arush Arushanyan, the number 32 on the Armenia bloc’s slate, has been charged with bribe-relating crimes as well as using his office to obstruct the exercise of the right to vote, causing damage to property or threatening to damage property, and other crimes.
Prior to his arrest, the prosecutors had asked the Central Electoral Commission to scrap Arushanyan’s immunity. Arushanyan denies any wrongdoing, calling the charges fabricated and not serious.
