Men dancing on Armenian church in Istanbul arrested

12.07.2021 | 16:03Men dancing on the wall of the Armenian Holy King church in Istanbul have been arrested, a statement by the city administration said, Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported.
“The three people who took part in that action have been arrested. An investigation has been launched. We condemn this odious act against the sanctuaries, the statement said.
Yesterday, a group of young people organized street dances in the area where the Armenian church is located. Several men climbed the church wall and started dancing. The video with their participation has spread widely on the Internet. Spokesman for the ruling Justice and Development Party Օmer Çelik also condemned the action. “We condemn this act of contempt against the Holy King Church. Such actions against mosques, churches, synagogues are disrespectful to everyone, we consider it a provocation,” Celik wrote on his Twitter page.
Earlier, Garo Palyan, an Armenian member of the Turkish Parliament, condemned the incident and called on the Interior Ministry to investigate the police officers working on the spot.
