The trial of 14 prisoners of war from Armenia’s Shirak Province came to an end at Baku’s Court of Military Crimes.

The POWs standing the trial were Hrachya Avagyan, Gegham Serobyan, Armen Bagasyan, Gor Gasparyan, Kamo Sefilyan, Volodya Hakobyan, Gevorg Asatryan, Sisak Yengoyan, Albert Petrosyan, Romik Sedrakyan, Aram Minasyan, Mkrtich Minasyan, Edgar Matesyan, Yuri Karapetyan.

The prosecutor demanded that Hrach Avagyan and Gegham Serobyan be sentenced to 5 years in prison under Article 318 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan (illegal crossing of the state border) and the others to 2 years in prison under the same article. After returning from the deliberation room, the court delivered the verdict. Accordingly, Hrachya Avagyan and Gegham Serobyan were sentenced to 4 years of imprisonment, the others to 6 months of imprisonment.

Baku first initiated a fabricated criminal case against 14 prisoners from Shirak Province, then against 13 others. Later, charges against 26 mores prisoners of war from Armenia’s Shirak Province were leveled.

A total of 62 Armenian troops were captured by Azerbaijan, nine of them have already returned home.
