The EU-Armenia Comprehensive Extended Partnership Agreement (CEPA) will enter into force on March 1st, 2021. It has been ratified by the Republic of Armenia, all EU Member States, and the European Parliament, setting an important milestone in EU-Armenia relations.
The agreement sets out a wide range of areas of cooperation between the European Union and Armenia, including democracy, the rule of law, respect for human rights, the creation of more jobs, business opportunities, better legislation, public safety, and a cleaner environment, as well as providing better education and research opportunities. At the same time, the bilateral agenda contributes to relations with the Eastern Neighborhood countries within the framework of the EU’s Eastern Partnership.
“Our Comprehensive Extended Partnership Agreement enters into force at a time when Armenia is facing serious challenges, sending a strong signal that the EU and Armenia are committed to democratic principles, to the rule of law, and to a broader reform agenda. The aim of the agreement is to contribute to overcoming the challenges of Armenia’s reform agenda in the political, economic, and trade spheres, to make positive changes in people’s lives,” said Giuseppe Borrell, vice president of the European Commission and high representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
