Canadian Foreign Minister Marc Garneau has announced the appointment of EU Ambassador to Europe Stephane Dion as Special Envoy to Armenia.
Special Envoy Dion will study the options of how Canada can stimulate the efforts of the Armenian civil society, strengthen the democratic structures, expand the cooperation of Armenia with multilateral structures, promote the economic growth. The purpose of this mission is to strengthen the support of Canadian society for the benefit of democracy in Armenia. The mission of the Special Envoy will last several months, which will include online consultations with stakeholders in Canada and Armenian partners. Ambassador Dion will also visit Armenia to meet with senior government officials, key agencies, as well as partner embassies, civil society groups, international organizations, the private sector, and local media.
