Gunmen take control of government buildings in Libya’s capital

16.12.2021 | 14:50Gunmen seized the presidential palace and surrounded the buildings of the government and the Ministry of Defense in the Libyan capital Tripoli late on December 15, the korrespondent newspaper reported, citing Sky News Arabia.
According to the newspaper, the head and members of the country’s presidential council were evacuated to a safe place after receiving information about the upcoming attacks on their apartments. The military participating in the occupation of state institutions are included in the battalion of Al-Samoud brigade. They have already announced that “there will be no presidential elections in Libya, that they will close all government offices in Tripoli.”
According to social network users, armed people occupy all significant infrastructures. In large cities in the west of the country, several military formations have been brought to combat readiness. Meanwhile, a number of districts of Tripoli were left without electricity.
