NA adopts amendments penalizing media outlet for citing unidentified source

10.12.2021 | 14:09The National Assembly adopted in the second reading and in full the amendments to the law on mass media proposed by the Civil Contract party. The authors of the project are Civil Contract party MPs Arthur Hovhannisyan, Vahagn Hovakimyan, Taguhi Ghazaryan, Sargis Khandanyan.
According to the bill, any media outlet will be held responsible in case of citing a fake. The bill defines an unidentified source as a domain registered on the Internet, a hosted site, or an account or channel or page of a website or application whose owner’s identification data is missing, or is obviously false or incomplete if that defect does not allow the source to be identified.
The bill also amends the provision on the accreditation of journalists, stipulates that if the media outlet does not submit a financial report, does not submit the identification data required by law, the application for accreditation of the media outlet will be rejected.
