A group of about 150 “aggressive” migrants made an unsuccessful attempt to enter Poland from Belarus on Sunday, the Border Guard has reported, according to the first.news.com.

According to Anna Michalska, a Border Guard spokeswoman, the incident took place in the vicinity of Dubicze Cerkiewne, north-eastern Poland.

“The attack started with throwing stones at Polish border guard posts,” Michalska said. “They tried to blind (the Polish officers – PAP) with flashlights and lasers, and put wooden boards across the barbed wire fence.”

As a result, 70 people managed to get a few metres onto Polish territory, she added.

“Those people were stopped, instructed to leave Poland and escorted to the border,” Michalska said.

“All of this took place under the supervision of the Belarusian forces, meaning that their officers tried to blind us with flashlights, helped (migrants) in crossing the border and encouraged them to do it,” she went on to say.

Stanislaw Zaryn, head of Poland’s National Security Department, tweeted on Monday that the pressure from migrants and Belarusian officers has intensified.

“The groups undertaking such attempts as well as Belarusian officers are becoming more and more aggressive,” he wrote in a Twitter post.
