2021 NA election: Lawsuits filed against 46 people in 22 cases; 76% related to vote buying

22.10.2021 | 13:28In a statement released today, the Armenian General Prosecutor’s Office summarized the results of the investigation into the cases of substantial electoral and other election-related crimes registered during the June 20 National Assembly elections. Accordingly, 91 people have been charged in more than 80 criminal cases in connection with the reports sent to the preliminary investigation bodies.
Preliminary investigation of in 39 cases on alleged electoral crimes is still under way, several cases have been terminated and some have been merged.
So far, lawsuits have been filed against 46 people in 22 cases; 76% of the cases are related to vote buying.
Although the preliminary investigation of most of the cases are still ongoing, it can already be stated that the 2021 snap parliamentary elections significantly differ from those held in 2017 and in 2018 in terms of effectiveness of law enforcement activities against electoral crimes, the statement says.
