Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on a number of issues on the bilateral agenda and the prospects for the resumption of full implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (JCPOA), according to the Russian Foreign Ministry release.

The release says the telephone conversation was initiated by the American side.

“The parties exchanged views on the prospects for the resumption of full implementation of the Comprehensive Joint Action Plan on Iran’s nuclear program, as well as discussed a number of topical issues on the bilateral agenda,” reads the release.

Yesterday, a group of influential US senators called on Biden to expel 300 Russian diplomats if Russia did not agree to increase the number of staff at the US Embassy in Moscow. The letter of the American legislators was published on the website of the Republican senator Marco Rubio. The Russian Foreign Ministry has threatened to retaliate if the US administration decides to take such a step. The Russian Foreign Ministry said that those proposing such solutions “apparently seek to close US missions in Russia” and “should realize that it will be their responsibility.”
