28.09.2021 | 16:45Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, who is planning to return home for local elections on October 2, will be arrested as soon as he gets in the country, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili told reporters on Tuesday, TASS reported.
“As soon as Saakashvili sets foot on our soil, he will be arrested and taken to prison. And all those who will hinder that process will also be severely punished under the law,” he added.
Garibashvili is convinced that Saakashvili’s goal is to return to power, but he reminded that now is not the year 2003, when the former president carried out a “rose revolution” in Georgia with his supporters and came to power.
“Saakashvili’s only task and goal is unrest, destabilization and chaos in our country. His only wish is to return to power, this is an unattainable dream for Saakashvili and his team. Today the state is strong, let Mikho and his gang not think that this is 2003. Everyone will be held accountable for any provocation, of course, within the law,” Irakli Garibashvili said.
On Monday, Mikheil Saakashvili announced that he had bought a flight ticket to Tbilisi on the evening of October 2. He later posted photos of a ticket on the Internet stating that he was going to return home with his mother, Giuli Alasania.
