Armenian, Iranian foreign minister discuss transport transit challenges from Iran to Armenia, ways to overcome them

24.09.2021 | 16:36Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, who is participating in the 76th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, met on September 23 with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahian, the Foreign Ministry said. The ministers expressed satisfaction with the high level of centuries-old Armenian-Iranian friendly relations and the frequency of high-level contacts.
They discussed the challenges of transport transit from Iran to Armenia and the ways to overcome them. Minister Mirzoyan briefed his counterpart on the Goris-Kapan road section, the process of construction of an alternative road, as well as the works of the North-South highway.
Issues related to regional peace and stability were also discussed. Mirzoyan stressed that Azerbaijan’s provocative actions against the sovereign territory of Armenia undermine the efforts aimed at sustainable security and development in the region, adding that he highly appreciates Iran’s position on Armenia’s territorial integrity.
