02.09.2021 | 18:00The European Union (EU) is preparing a new package of sanctions against Alexander Lukashenko’s regime in Belarus, Deputy Managing Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Luc Devigne said on September 2 at a European Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on the situation on the EU-Belarus border, DW reported.
“The recent actions of the Lukashenko regime, that is, the use of immigrants as a tool by the state, are a clear violation of international norms. We will continue to fight against this horrific instrumentalization of immigrants and human suffering by the Lukashenko regime. This struggle, of course, will involve sanctions. EU member states are now working together on a fifth package.”
The European Union presented four packages of sanctions for rigging the presidential election in Belarus on August 9, 2020 and suppressing the subsequent protests.
