Kabul may become a battleground between the Islamic State terrorist group and the Taliban, which has taken control of Afghanistan, a NATO representative and former Italian Ambassador to Pakistan Stefano Pontecorvo, who coordinates the civilian evacuation of people from Afghanistan, has said in an interview with Messaggero newspaper, TASS reported. He said the terrorist attacks at Kabul airport are still episodic.
He added that currently, the Taliban are unable to stop the IS due to the lack of any system of government. “The Taliban want to restore it, but it will take time. Besides, they do not have complete and absolute control of the territory, like a sufficient number of people,” said the Italian diplomat.
