Acting defense minister resigns

20.07.2021 | 16:57Acting Armenian Minister of Defense Vagharshak Harutyunyan has submitted resignation letter, a source in the Ministry of Defense told Factor.am, without elaborating on the reasons. When asked if Harutyunyan was still in the building, the source said he was there a while ago.
Harutyunyan was appointed minister of defense on November 20, 2020, when Davit Tonoyan was dismissed after 44 days of war. Harutyunyan held the position also in 1999-2000.
On July 22, 2002, by the decree of then-President Robert Kocharyan, he was deprived of his rank. However, on August 24, 2019, by a decree of President Armen Sargsyan, his rank of lieutenant general was reinstated.
