A wildfire in a record heat wave in western Canada has ordered residents to evacuate a British Columbia village that broke the record for the third consecutive day of the week. Mayor Jan Polderman of Lytton issued an evacuation order on Wednesday, saying on Twitter that the fire threatened the structure and safety of local residents 95 miles northeast of Vancouver.
“All residents are advised to leave the community and go to a safe place,” said Polderman.
The mayor said the situation was dire for a community of 250 people. “The whole town is on fire,” he said. “It took like 15 minutes from the first signs of smoke to a sudden fire everywhere.”
A video posted on social media seems to show people driving out of town with a lot of smoke engulfing the road with flames nearby.
