Italian MPs call for immediate release of Armenian POWs

Members of the Lega party of the Italian Parliament Massimiliano Capitano and Julio Centemero have issued a statement, calling for the release without preconditions of the Armenian prisoners of war held in Azerbaijan, the Embassy of Armenia in Italy reported.
“Azerbaijan continues to hold many Armenian prisoners of war hostage for their use in political negotiations with the support of Turkey. We have learned that a few days ago a disturbing video of a conversation between the presidents of Turkey and Azerbaijan appeared on the Internet, which confirms the fact that Armenian captives are being held illegally in Azerbaijan and used for exchanging maps of minefields or other concessions. This issue needs clarity, urgency and a firm stance by all international partners to stop speculating on human lives. We expect our government to make its voice heard as soon as possible, expressing its position against those who continue to violate all provisions of international humanitarian law. We therefore demand that all prisoners of war and detained civilians be released immediately and repatriated without preconditions.”
