In recent years, various attacks on statues, busts, and images of Atatürk have been growing in Turkey, ermenihaber.am reports.

A series of attacks on the statues of the founder of the Republic of Turkey and the country’s first president Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was registered in the Marmara Ereğlisi region of the northwestern Turkish province of Tekirdağ.  On March 28, insulting writings were left on the statues of Atatürk in the yards of three different schools in the region, and an iron barrel was placed. The incident was immediately condemned by representatives of the Kemalist Republican People’s Party, Turkey’s main opposition force.

CHP MP from Tekirdağ Ilhami Aygun described the incident as a planned attack. He wrote about it on Twitter blaming the country’s authorities: “Those who encourage the attackers on Atatürk’s busts are as guilty as the latter. It turns out that some people are not only worried about Atatürk, but also about Ataturk’s independence granted to our country”.
