21.12.2021 | 21:11Russia considers the attempts to force Georgia to join NATO as crossing the “red line,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, TASS reported.
He said that “in talks with the foreign ministers of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, he discussed hypothetical scenarios, including attempts to force Georgia into NATO against the will of the majority of its population.”
“Our position on NATO enlargement is known – it will be a ‘red line’ if the alliance continues to get closer and closer to the borders of the Russian Federation,” Lavrov said.
He said Russia’s proposals in terms of security guarantees, which are presented in the context of general security in the entire Euro-Atlantic region, show that “Russia is sincerely interested in preventing negative developments in the scenarios of some NATO strategists.”
On December 17, the Russian Foreign Ministry published draft security guarantees with the United States, as well as agreements on security measures between Russia and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
