17.11.2021 | 21:01Armenia expects Russia, as a strategic partner, to help resolve issues related to Azerbaijan’s actions on the border situation, Armenian Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan has said in an interview with the Russian newspaper Kommersant when asked what kind of help Armenia expects from Moscow under the 1997 agreement.
“It is an act of aggression. In 1997, Armenia and Russia agreed to help each other in such cases. That is why we turned to Russia,” Grigoryan said. To the clarifying question, does Yerevan primarily expect military or diplomatic help from Russia, Grigoryan said: “We prefer resolving the issue through diplomacy. But if this is not possible through diplomacy, the issue must be resolved militarily.”
He added that Russia and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) are priority for Armenia, but if no solution is found, Armenia “will start considering other possibilities.”
