Scientist with Armenian origins wins Nobel Prize
The Nobel Committee in Stockholm has announced the names of the 2021 Nobel Prize winners in physiology and medicine. This year the award was given to American scientists David Julius and Armenian Ardem Patapoutian, BBC Russian Service reported.
The committee considered the revelation of Julius and Patapoutian a turning point.
“This year’s winners gave us the opportunity to understand that temperature or mechanical force generates nerve impulses that allow us to perceive the world and adapt,” the committee said in a statement.
Artem Patapօutian is an Armenian born in Beirut in 1967. He works at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute in California.
