Court rules to keep former prosecutor general in detention

04.10.2021 | 13:28The Criminal Court of Appeal ruled to uphold a lower court’s ruling to detain former Prosecutor General and former Chairman of the Armenia’s Investigative Committee Aghvan Hovsepyan.
Aghvan Hovsepyan’s lawyer Erik Aleksanyan told journalists that the defense team will appeal to the Court of Cassation. He also said that Hovsepyan denies any wrongdoing and calls the accusations “illegal.”
Hovsepyan was arrested in early September. According to the Special Investigation Service, Hovsepyan had participated in the management of a number of companies during his term as prosecutor general and chairman of the Investigative Committee. He is also accused of money laundering of an amount of 1,299,404,414 AMD (about US $2.7 million)
