10.09.2021 | 16:30A special command group has been set up in Baku to represent the Turkish Armed Forces in Azerbaijan. The delegation includes four Turkish generals, Azerbaijani media reported. The group will be headed by Maj Gen Bakhtiar Ersay, Chief of the Operational Staff of the Turkish Land Forces. The Turkish command will be represented by Gen Abdullah Gatirci, Gen Ender Guner, who will head the command post, Turkish Military Attaché, Gen Zakaria Yalcin.
The name of Bakhtiar Ersay was circulating during the 44-day war among the Turkish generals who took part in the war against Nagorno Karabakh. In particular, the Russian Vzglyad publication, referring to its own sources in the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan, said that the Turkish military, under the command of Ersay, took part in the military operations against Nagorno Karabakh.
“Ersay is in Baku. After the removal of the Chief of the General Staff of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces Najmedin Sadigov, he personally heads the General Staff for Operation against Karabakh. He reports to the Turkish military-political leadership,” Vzglyad wrote at the time, citing an anonymous source in the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry.
