IS claims responsibility for Kabul airport rocket attack

The Islamic State group’s Afghan affiliate has claimed responsibility for a rocket attack on Monday, saying it fired at least six Katyusha rockets at the airport in Kabul.
The rockets struck the Salim Karwan neighbourhood, which is close to the airport in the Afghan capital.
The claim of responsibility was made by the militant group’s media arm, the Aamaq news agency.
The US military said earlier that five rockets targeted the airport on Monday morning and that US forces on the airfield used a defensive system to intercept them.
The attack did not halt the steady stream of US military C-17 cargo jets taking off and landing at Hamid Karzai International Airport.
