Baku Court of Grave Crimes sentenced Armenian prisoner of war Davit Davtyan and Gevorg Sujyan to 15 years in prison. Azerbaijan charged them under Articles 228 (illegal possession of weapons), 279 (creation of armed groups), 318 (illegal crossing of the state border), 276 (espionage) of the country’s criminal code.

Gevorg Sujyan said he “regreted what he did” and apologized, so did Davit Davtyan. The prosecutor demanded to sentence the Armenian prisoners to 16 years of imprisonment, and after serving the sentence, to deport them from Azerbaijan.

The trials on fabricated charges against different groups of Armenian prisoners of war continue in Baku. There are other published verdicts. In particular, Lebanese-Armenian Vigen Euljekjian was sentenced to 20 years in prison, Shirak prisoners Hrach Avagyan and Gegham Serobyan to four years in prison, and 12 prisoners to six months in prison. The latter, however, returned to Armenia on July 3. Recently, two groups of Shirak prisoners of war, a total of 26 prisoners, were sentenced to six years in prison.
