20.07.2021 | 16:28According to preliminary estimates of the German Federal Ministry of Transport, the damage caused by the devastating flood to the transport sector could amount to 2 billion euros. The damage to the railway alone is about 1.3 million euros, according to Bild, citing internal estimates of the ministry. Many sections of the railway line were destroyed. Most of the stations were destroyed and flooded in many regions affected by the natural disaster, says the Russian service of DW. Roads and highways were damaged by several hundred million euros. Bridges, railways, highways and mobile towers need to be rebuilt as soon as possible. According to the ministry, the construction of 300 temporary bridges in crisis areas is possible at the expense of the federal government. The head of the German Association of Insurers fears that the damage caused by the flood will be the highest.
“In the short term, 2021 could be one of the most devastating years since 2013,” he has said.
In 2013, the insured damage caused by floods, hurricanes and cyclones amounted to 9.3 billion euros.
