Armenian ombudsman discusses return of Armenian POWS, other issues with French counterpart

07.12.2021 | 13:47Armenia’s Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan yesterday met with his French counterpart Claire Hedon, the ombudsman’s office said in a statement.
The statement says the parties discussed the obstacles that hinder the protection of human rights in our countries. Tatoyan, in particular, noted the need for the immediate return of the Armenian captives illegally detained in Azerbaijan, saying that they are being held for political reasons, violating the rules of international law. He also made a separate reference to the gross violations of the rights of Armenian servicemen and civilians by the Azerbaijani armed forces, including the issue of responsibility for torture and atrocities.
The negative effects of the COVID-19 eon people, the rights of women and children, and the involvement of human rights institutions in international bodies have been the subject of the meeting.
